Nigeria’s waste crisis is not a seasonal nuisance but a chronic, daily reality: overflowing refuse, smoky dumpsites, clogged drains, and an informal recycling system struggling to hold back total collapse. Cities generate more waste than they can ever hope to handle, and government efforts—though visible—remain fragmented and underfunded. Yet modern technologies such as AI-driven route optimisation, digital waste-for-cash platforms, sensor-based monitoring, and blockchain recycling credits could transform how waste is collected, tracked, and monetised.
